Buckle up, folks, because we have just gotten the final suspect in Days of Our Lives‘ EJ shooting mystery. And one of the last people we suspected may also be the one most likely to have done it! Even better? It all came out during an Alice In Wonderland birthday tea party. We’re guessing that, by now, you know where this is going. If not, hear us out.One fan theory that’s been rattling around has been that little Rachel shot EJ. Why? Well, her hypothetical motive isn’t as clear as the other shooting suspects. Maybe Rachel heard Uncle EJ threatening her mommy and got angry. Maybe she heard mommy and EJ talk about how he made Grandma Rachel disappear and wanted to hurt him. Maybe she just found a gun and it was an accident.
And look, at this point, we can’t help but think of the parallels to the classic Simpsons Whodunnit: Who Shot Mr. Burns? After establishing motive for half the town, breaking out countless guns amongst the townspeople and leaving clues and red herrings left and right, we eventually learned that it was little Maggie Simpson who accidentally shot the villain!
(Sorry if that’s a spoiler, but the mystery aired 30 years ago, so we’re pretty sure the statute of limitations on spoilers is past. Actually, part one debuted on May 21st, 1995. And that makes next week — one week from Rachel’s tea party — the episode’s 30th anniversary!)
Either way, it’s been one of the more unorthodox theories as the suspects have focused on everyone in town with a grievance towards EJ. But after Wednesday’s Days of Our Lives episode, we’re looking at the theory in a whole new light.
First off, Rachel assured EJ that her mommy did not shoot him. That could be a child’s faith in their mother, but it could also be something more — like the certainty of a child who knows what really happened.
Then there was EJ mentioning that his attempted killer could still be out there. Rachel got real scared at that comment, faked a yawn, said she was tired and went up to bed. What child does that at their own birthday party, especially one like Rachel’s where she got to be the queen?
Kristen chalked her daughter’s reaction to being scared by EJ’s comment that she’s not safe. But that didn’t feel quite right for what Rachel was reacting to. She didn’t run off in fear. She looked afraid, but made a calculated excuse to get away.
Then there was the bang from Kristen flipping over that metal bowl. Rachel rushed downstairs, claiming she had a nightmare and heard a gunshot. But she says she never heard the gunshot the night EJ was shot. Both she and Kristen said Rachel was asleep and oblivious.
Granted, Rachel does live in the DiMera mansion where gunshots ring out with frightening regularity, but there’s never been any hint she’s been around for any of the other incidents. Put it all together, and Rachel’s reaction on Wednesday seems a whole lot like someone who shot her uncle, is probably a bit traumatized by it and is afraid that she’s going to be found out.
Maybe Kristen’s really unaware of what happened and really was in the shower and clueless. But maybe her own violent reaction to EJ was because she found Rachel and her uncle the night of the shooting, and has been trying her best to keep her daughter out of trouble. EJ cut a little too close to the bone during the tea party and both mother and daughter panicked.
