Coronation Street has confirmed Evelyn Plummer’s future after it looked as though she might quit university to return to the cobbles.
Evelyn actor Maureen Lipman left the show as a full-time cast member earlier this year after her character was accepted onto a university course.

Since then, she has made brief appearances as a part-time member of the cast, returning to Weatherfield for certain storylines.
Evelyn returned to the soap last week to visit her grandson Tyrone Dobbs in the hospital after he was involved in a car accident. Tyrone told Evelyn that he could be laid up for months and was worried about the strain it would have on his wife Fiz.
In today’s episode, Evelyn told Fiz that she had decided to give up university as it was too expensive and a young person’s game.
“I’m leaving the course. Just been thinking it over and I’ve decided it’s not for me,” Evelyn said, adding: “I’m a bit long in the tooth for it.”
Later, Roy Cropper let slip to Fiz how much Evelyn had been enjoying her course, saying: “University has fulfilled her in ways which even she has found surprising.”
Fiz reached a decision and insisted that Evelyn must return to university, saying: “Listen, I know you want to stay around here and help, but I think you should go back to uni.”
Fiz said that Tyrone would never forgive himself if Evelyn left the course and Evelyn agreed to go back to uni, leaving Tyrone worried about how Fiz will cope.
Back when it was announced that she would be leaving the ITV soap as a full-time cast member, Lipman explained her decision, saying she wanted to take some time off to spend with her fiancé David Turner.
Speaking to The Sun, Lipman said: “I’ll be absent for a while, and then coming back. I’m not going to die but then I’ll be in and out of it because I want to have a bit of a life. David and I are thinking of having a bit of a gap year.”
