Despite trying to move forward, the torch Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) has for Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) is still shining brightly out of his farming overalls pocket in Emmerdale.
Robert recently said an emotional farewell to Aaron, believing it would be better to let him go and be with John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth).
Aaron and John then left the village, and have been on holiday in a little cottage ever since.
We now know that said cottage is actually John’s childhood home. This was revealed in Friday’s episode, when Aaron broke into a locked room.
Inside were items that proved it was John’s old bedroom. When he discovered what Aaron had done, John told him a story about his mum dying of cancer and how it impacted him.
The manipulation tactics worked, as moments later Aaron was feeling bad for John. The medic then reminded Aaron of his previous interest in buying the place, and he agreed to the idea of them moving in and doing it up.

While this has been going on, Robert has been trying to put his focus elsewhere. This has come in the form of building a partnership with Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb), embracing his family history and taking up farming.
Robert, Victoria Sugden (Isabel Hodgins), Matty Barton (Ash Palmisciano) and Ross Barton (Michael Parr) had their first shift together this week, but they decided initially that the best approach to get everything done would be making it a competition.
The Sugdens and Bartons raced to a field to move some sheep. Things went disastrously wrong, however, as the group then learnt they had moved the wrong herd.
Robert, Vic, Matty, Ross and his red plastic trowel then had to work together to correct their mistakes, and actually complete the task they had set themselves in the first place.
They celebrated a day of hard work (kind of) with a few drinks in the pub. It was an enjoyable time for Robert, given only a few months prior he would spend his day staring at the wall of his cell.

In this new video, Vic pops home and can’t resist gossiping about John and Aaron moving into the cottage.
Already struggling to process the news, Robert comments on how it’s a bit weird of John to want to live in an old home full of memories, rather than purchase a new one.
Robert is incredibly reluctant to talk to Vic about how Aaron permanently leaving makes him feel. She says that he needs to find a way to cope, but Robert thinks that he can develop a plan so Aaron stays and therefore, he wouldn’t need to find a way to deal with him not being around.
But what exactly does Robert have in mind?
As Aaron looks towards the future, he remains unaware at the moment that John is holding his best friend hostage in a bunker just a few steps away from the home.
Mackenzie Boyd’s (Lawrence Robb) fate was confirmed in Friday’s instalment in the ITV soap. The last we saw of him, he had just been hit in the chest via bow and arrow.

The final scenes of the showdown made it look as though John had killed him, but he is keeping a very unwell Mack in a dark and dingy shelter.
What will John do next?
Reflecting on what lies ahead, star Danny Miller recently told us: ‘I do think they’re supposed to be together. I do believe they are two people who’ve always needed each other.
‘This is the opportunity for Robert to express that and Aaron manages to find a way of pushing him away because he knows from previous experiences that him and Robert shouldn’t work, although they do work, they want to work though they haven’t in the past.’
‘He’s still got a lot of anger towards Robert for handing himself in to the police and cutting ties when he went to prison, so there’s all that to play as well.’

‘John’s back is well and truly against the wall and he’s running out of options and people are starting to home in and close the net on him, he’s not really got an escape route,’ Danny added.
‘I don’t think even John knows what he wants to do to get himself out of the situation but what he does know is that he doesn’t want to lose the battle to Robert. Whether that’s genuine true love with Aaron – I think it is – or whether that’s been overtaken by John’s hatred towards Robert, it means he simply can’t lose the battle.
