Happiness at last for Coronation Street’s Lisa and Carla as magical proposal is accepted in early ITVX release

Swarla fans everywhere will surely be rejoicing after today’s Coronation Street episode as Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) and Carla Connor (Alison King) finally managed to pop the question.

After three failed proposals, it was about time they sealed the deal, and Lisa certainly wasn’t playing by halves.

The detective had been the first one to float the idea, spontaneously asking Carla to marry her after the brutal death of Craig Tinker.

Knowing the death of Lisa’s colleague had unearthed painful memories of wife Becky’s death, Carla insisted that it wasn’t the right time for them to make that commitment.

However, in recent weeks, Carla decided that she wanted to marry Lisa after all, and planned to ask the question herself.

Her first attempt was derailed when she learnt that Becky had proposed to Lisa with the engagement ring in a glass of champagne, exactly as she was about to do. Understandably, she put the plan on hold.

Earlier this week, her second attempt – assisted this time by future daughter-in-law Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin) – nearly came to fruition, until David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) ruined the moment with more complaints about his hijacked recycling bin.

As Lisa picked up the mess he’d thrown over the fence, she was horrified to find a piece of paper with the name ‘Tia Wardley’ scribbled in Carla’s handwriting.

The discovery caused a row, and the pair were at odds until Betsy had a private word with her mum.

In tonight’s episode, Lisa kept up the appearance that Carla had upset her, before informing Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) that it was all part of her master plan. A plan she would need his help for.

It soon became clear exactly what said plan involved when sirens and a megaphone drew Carla and the rest of the Underworld staff out of the front doors.

Carla was confused to see Ryan holding the megaphone, but everything became clear when Lisa stepped out of the car and got down on one knee.

After being tossed her ring box by Betsy, Carla pulled Lisa to her feet and the pair exchanged rings, while the onlookers cheered.

The couple spent the rest of the day celebrating their engagement in the Rovers with their close family and friends, though it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows.

Away from the party, Lisa had a quiet word with Kit Green (Jacob Roberts), who revealed that Logan Radcliffe had been transferred to a segregated unit in prison shortly after Carla’s visit earlier this year.

As he theorised that their boss, DI Costello, may have had something to do with it, it appeared later that he may be on the right track.

While Carla and Lisa headed home, DI Costello took a phone call in his office, where he made it clear that Kit appeared to be edging closer to the truth.

Viewers will know that he has been suspicious about Costello for a while, ever since the DI shut down his investigation into Becky Swain, who Kit had realised had links to one of his cases.

Costello continued his conversation to the mystery person on the other end of the phone, where he admitted that he was sure Lisa was the one pushing Kit closer to the answers they were after.
