Chris McKenna was friends with former Cheers star George Wendt, and after his passing, honored him with heartfelt sentiment on Instagram.
Chris McKenna has wowed the fans as the recast for General Hospital’s Jack Brennan. The actor certainly has chemistry with his on-screen love interest, Laura Wright. Acting since 1991, it should come as no surprise, then, that he’s got a lot of friends in Hollywood. Sadly, one beloved actor from a classic sitcom passed away, and his friend, McKenna, honored him on social media.
Another Voice in Heaven
George Wendt played the beloved Norm on the classic TV sitcom, Cheers. McKenna shared a card on Instagram with a passage he wrote that stated, “It’s ironic that it was George’s heart that failed him in the end. That’s the first time his heart failed anyone. A couple weeks ago I posted a photo of my son sleeping on my chest. He responded with a picture from the early 80’s of his infant son sleeping on his. He wrote one word—‘Heaven’. While the world imagines him on a barstool in the sky, I’ll picture him in the heaven he wanted. #RIPGeorgeWendt.”He captioned the pic, “The last thing George said to me…#GeorgeWendt #Norm #Cheers #RIPGeorgeWendt #Gh #Heaven.” The outpouring of fan love was incredible, with one follower thoughtfully commenting, “I’m so sorry for the loss of your dear friend, who we mostly knew affectionately as ‘Norm.’ 💔.”
The Fan Love Was Palpable
The memories just poured in as another fan wrote, “What a heartwarming story for you to share with all of us — he was a true legend. May your beautiful memories, just as this, bring you peace and comfort. RIP Sir, heaven just got a little funnier and louder 🙏🏼🦋🙏🏼.” McKenna’s fans offered their heartfelt condolences.
A viewer responded, “I’m sorry for your loss. This is beautiful. This shows his true heart. 💜,” while another wished they knew the comedic icon, writing, “Oh, this is a sweet story! Thanks for sharing it! Makes me wish I’d been fortunate enough to call him friend as well!”
