General Hospital (GH) recap for Wednesday, August 20, reveals that Damian Spinelli (Bradford Anderson) hinted at a marriage proposal before Maxie Jones’ (Kirsten Storms) mystery enzyme pointed to poison.
At GH, Lucas Jones (Van Hansis) voiced his concerns to Elizabeth Baldwin (Rebecca Herbst) since Maxie should’ve woken up by now.
Nevertheless, Lucas had some positive updates for Spinelli and Lulu Spencer (Alexa Havins Bruening) since Maxie’s initial test results were good.
There was nothing to indicate that Maxie’s body was rejecting her heart.
After Curtis Ashford (Donnell Turner) convinced a reluctant Stella Henry (Vernee Watson) to meet with Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn), Stella confessed to adjusting dates on seven cases over the years to make sure patients had coverage.
Alexis confirmed that was fraud based on the insurance company’s definition, so Stella could be in trouble.
When Curtis found out Martin Grey (Michael E. Knight) was one of the patients Stella helped, he realized Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison) may have found out and caused this investigation.
Lulu offered to go be with the kids so Spinelli could be the first person Maxie saw when she awoke.
Spinelli sat by Maxie’s bedside and vowed to ask her to marry him as soon as she opened her eyes, but she didn’t regain consciousness.
Cody Bell (Josh Kelly), Mac Scorpio (John J. York) and Felicia Scorpio (Kristina Wagner) were all baffled over Maxie’s medical ordeal.
Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) also spoke with Felicia alone and gave her a pep talk.
Elizabeth had a pep talk for Lucas as well since he did everything right. Now they just had to wait for Maxie to wake up on her own time.
Back with Cody, he comforted Mac and admitted Maxie was the one who convinced him to stay in town when he considered leaving.
Lulu made it to Maxie’s house, where Emma Scorpio-Drake (Braedyn Bruner) was babysitting. Emma heard the latest news on Maxie before heading out.
Next, Liesl Obrecht (Kathleen Gati) arrived to see James West (Gary James Fuller), so Lulu allowed it since she thought it’d be good for him.
Once James and Georgie Spinelli (Lily Fisher) came into the living room bickering, Georgie let it slip that Maxie was in the hospital.
James was alarmed and had plenty of questions, but Liesl handled them like a pro and impressed Lulu in the process.
In fact, Lulu expressed her gratitude to Liesl since she hadn’t known what she was going to say to the kids.
Liesl eventually admitted she was worried since the longer Maxie didn’t respond, the more likely it became that she would slip into a coma.
At the Metro Court pool, Giovanni “Gio” Palmieri (Giovanni Mazza) rejected Drew’s attempt to paint them both as Quartermaine outsiders and wanted nothing to do with him.
Drew met with Martin soon after and filled him in on his plan to take Michael Corinthos (Rory Gibson) down for assault.
Martin got Drew to admit this was about getting Willow Tait (Katelyn MacMullen) her children back, but the attorney pointed out that Curtis could help Michael through positive media coverage at Aurora.
Drew argued that Curtis would be too busy helping Stella with her fraud investigation, so Martin wondered how he knew about that.
Although Drew claimed he just heard things as a congressman, Martin clearly suspected he was responsible for ratting Stella out.
Since Martin seemed reluctant to help him, Drew pointed out that Martin couldn’t afford to lose a high-paying client.
Back with Gio, he consoled Emma over Maxie’s ordeal and shared some close moments with her.
Meanwhile, Diane Miller (Carolyn Hennesy) went with Michael and Sonny to the PCPD, where ADA Justine Turner (Nazneen Contractor) spoke with Sonny privately.
Sonny grilled Justine, who insisted she would recuse herself from the case if it moved forward because of what she overheard Drew saying at Sonny’s place.
Harrison Chase (Josh Swickard) eventually returned from interviewing nine witnesses from the restaurant, but none of them recalled seeing Michael hit Drew.
Drew was outraged when he arrived with Martin and heard that, so he accused Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) of getting the staff to lie for Michael.
Drew also felt that Sonny had bribed the witnesses, so Sonny hinted about Drew harassing him with these accusations.
Although Drew also lashed out at Chase, Turner defended him.
Drew eventually said Martin would be his witness and confirmed what she wanted to say in his statement against Michael.
ADA Turner urged Martin to sign his name if he agreed with what Drew wrote, so Drew tried to hand him a pen.
However, Martin definitely didn’t look ready to go along with Drew’s wishes after what she did to Stella!
At the hospital again, Lucas informed Maxie’s loved ones that there was an anomaly found in her blood.
The tox screen indicated there was an unidentified enzyme, so they needed to figure out what it was and form a treatment plan.
Since Lucas had never seen anything like this enzyme before, Anna privately asked if Maxie could’ve been poisoned.
General Hospital spoilers say Maxie’s medical team will continue to dig for answers, so don’t miss what’s in store.
