In tonight’s Chicago Fire episode, Neither Kidd nor Severide took time off. They were hoping to adopt a baby. The adoption fell through because the mother changed her mind. It happens sometimes with these things. There was also some sadness when the couple didn’t get to become parents and so they wanted to get lost in work.
They were both on the same shift when a call came in. It was a car accident. They pulled a man out of car that caught on fire. The man’s name is Robert Franklin. He was familiar to CFD because he got into another car accident two months ago in which Monica Pascal was killed.
Monica’s widow was Chief Pascal. He was in charge at Firehouse 51. He also tried to push for charges against Robert and that never happened because the accident was ruled accidental.
Robert wasn’t drinking. He didn’t fall asleep at the wheel. It was actually deemed that the stoplight wasn’t working properly. It was truly an accident and Pascal couldn’t accept it. He began stalking Robert. He was working himself up to doing something to the other man when Severide talked to him. Severide has lost his fair share of people. He tried to warn Pascal against seeking revenge.
Severide has been there himself. He knows no good would come from it. He told Pascal as much. Pascal seemed to listen and then Robert was nearly killed in a car accident that didn’t make sense.
His car caught on fire before he crashed. The crash would have hidden that the fire came first. Someone didn’t count on witnesses. The witnesses saw what happed. They told Severide everything. He called in OFI. Captain Van Meter came out to investigate the situation personally. He worked with Severide to determine what caused the accident.
They checked the car. It showed that someone punctured a hole in the converter. It caused the fire. The chief suspect in such a matter would naturally be Pascal. Now, Severide didn’t tell Van Meter about Pascal’s connection to Robert.
He kept that to himself because he wanted to talk to Pascal. He told his Chief about what happened as well as gave the name of the victim. He mentioned that OFI was now involved. He warned Pascal that OFI and the police were going to want his alibi for the day before. And Pascal doesn’t really have one.
