Firehouse 51 Faces More Exits
Chicago Fire season 14 is kicking off with major changes at Firehouse 51. Sam Carver has transferred to Denver, Jack Damon’s mysterious departure remains unresolved, and Darren Ritter will soon bow out after a short return. With so many exits, the show needed fresh energy — and it looks like they’ve found it in newcomer Sal Vasquez.
Brandon Larracuente Joins as Sal Vasquez
Brandon Larracuente, known for 13 Reasons Why, Bloodline, and The Good Doctor, steps into the world of One Chicago as firefighter Sal Vasquez. Slated to drive Truck 81 under Stella Kidd’s command, Vasquez will technically replace Carver’s role at the firehouse. But his storyline feels less like Carver’s continuation and more like a reworking of Jack Damon’s arc.
Vasquez Mirrors Damon’s Traits
While Carver leaves an empty spot on Truck 81, Vasquez’s personality aligns more closely with Damon’s. Like Severide’s half-brother, Vasquez is cocky, rebellious, and quick to challenge orders. Miranda Rae Mayo, who plays Kidd, has teased that Kidd will be “annoyed by the cockiness [Vasquez] portrays.”
Vasquez also shares Damon’s reckless streak and his tendency to clash with authority. Adding to the parallels, Vasquez is set to connect with Lizzie Novak — the same character who shared a fling with Damon in season 13. Even his family background as part of a first responder legacy echoes Damon’s story.
A Familiar Dynamic, a Fresh Face
Although Damon exits before season 14 begins, Vasquez looks poised to carry forward his spirit — for better or worse. By recycling Damon’s core traits into a new character, Chicago Fire ensures the ongoing tension with Kidd and drama on Truck 81 won’t miss a beat.
Season 14: A New Era with Familiar Conflicts
With Vasquez stepping in just as Damon departs, the show seems determined to keep its fiery clashes alive. Fans can expect Kidd’s leadership tested, new rivalries sparked, and echoes of Damon woven into Vasquez’s every move.
Chicago Fire season 14 premieres Wednesday, October 1, at 9 pm ET on NBC.
