Funeral director George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley) is a man in demand in Coronation Street at the moment.
He’s hardly had time to miss Eileen Grimshaw (Sue Cleaver) since she departed for sunnier climes, and he already finds himself the focus of interest of two Weatherfield women.
One is Jenny Bradley (Sally Ann Matthews), who has been sighing longingly after the unattached undertaker ever since he fixed her leaky pipes. And, amusingly, the other is Jenny’s arch enemy Christina Boyd (Amy Robbins).
Christina’s interest in George was initially for his professional services as a funeral director. She wanted to arrange the funeral of her late partner, Dom.
Suspicious of her motives, Jenny became convinced that this was all a made up story – after all, Christina had previously used Dom to try to catfish Jenny out of her money. Who knew what scheme they might be cooking up now?

In upcoming episodes this leads to a hugely awkward scene for Jenny when she goes to expose Christina’s lies – by ripping the lid from Dom’s coffin.
She’s hugely embarrassed to find that the coffin does indeed contain dead Dom. She’s forced to apologise to George and it seems her actions have ruined any prospect of George seeing her in a romantic light.
Especially as Christina is moving in on him, inviting him for a drink and then dazzling him by laughing at his jokes.
Glenda (Jodie Prenger) warns her brother that Christina isn’t to be trusted and she points out he has options. Jenny, for instance. George is amused that Glenda thinks Jenny fancies him.

Dom’s funeral takes place, and with his official duties over, George takes Christina for a drink. He admits he has feelings for her, and she says she likes him too. She insists on paying for the drinks, but her card is declined – and she bursts into tears.
Is Christina in genuine financial trouble, or is this all part of her latest scheme as she tries to reel in George – and his bank balance?
Dom’s isn’t the only funeral taking place on the Street in coming days. We previously saw in a special episode that Asha Alahan (Tanisha Gorey) has been struggling with her work as a paramedic. A terrible day that included a tragic death, an injured old lady and a racist attack led to Asha having a panic attack.

With her brother Aadi (Adam Hussain) preparing to leave for India, Asha wasn’t coping with her work or her home life. She eventually confided in Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) about what had been happening, but she continued to find things tough.
So in upcoming episodes Nina (Mollie Gallagher) is concerned when Asha says she’s going to the funeral of a young lad whom she was unable to save when he was badly hurt in a cycling accident. Nina questions whether going to the funeral is a good idea for her friend, but Asha insists.
