Ross wants answers about the baby in Emmerdale as Charity’s world falls apart

As if it wasn’t messy enough that Emmerdale’s Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) was having her granddaughter’s baby, fathered by the grandson of the local shop keeper and without her husband’s blessing, sleeping with Ross Barton (Michael Parr) has added a whole new level of complication.

Charity’s relationship with Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) has been crumbling since she decided to become a surrogate, but things have disintegrated more than either of them could have imagined with Charity hiding the secret that while things were bad, she slept with her ex.

The family got the exciting news that Charity was in fact pregnant, but it quickly became apparent that all may not be as it seemed – while Mack and her were having a fight, she’d gone and slept with Ross.

And now Ross may be the father of the baby. Is he?

This is the question Ross is left asking when he overhears Sarah (Katie Hill) telling Vanessa (Michelle Hardwick) that Mackenzie has ended his and Charity’s marriage.

Putting two and two together, Ross confronts Charity to see if she told Mack what happened. Not in a head space to be pushed, Charity loses her cool and throws him out.

But Charity is hiding a huge secret and later brakes down on Vanessa, confessing that Sarah’s baby might not be Sarah’s. Vanessa makes a huge assumption that she’s talking about Mack, not Ross, and Charity lets her believe it.

Vanessa is not one to keep secrets and Charity is left working overtime trying to convince her to keep it to herself.

And it’s not just her she’s having to keep quiet – Ross wants to know the truth too. Charity tries to convince him there’s no chance the baby is his, but Ross isn’t as daft as he’d have everyone believe.

Charity tells him she’s had tests to confirm the baby is not his, but he’s unconvinced.

He wants his own tests done but Charity’s refusal rings alarm bells. And now Charity realises that her problems are far bigger than just the dissolution of her marriage.
