Coronation Street aired a huge twist in Gary Windass’ (Mikey North) story today as his condition took a turn for the worse.
Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon) has been out of her mind with worry and confusion since Gary failed to return home from visiting his mum, unaware that he is actually in hospital in a coma.
In tonight’s episode, oblivious Maria hoped she might finally hear from him, seeing as it was Liam Connor’s (Charlie Wrenshall) 16th birthday.
However, as it got later and later, she began to grow more concerned, and eventually agreed to call Anna Windass to see if she knew where he had gone.
Though Maria had received a text from Gary revealing he was going to spend some time with a friend, Anna explained that he had told her he was going straight home to make up with Maria.

With something clearly not right, Maria decided it was time to involve the police.
Meanwhile, Gary was still alone in hospital, where his condition took a sudden turn for the worse, leaving doctors rushing to help him.
With things not looking good for him, the doctors agreed to call his next of kin – though the only phone call Maria received was from Anna.
Who did the hospital call?
Lou Michaelis (Farrel Hegarty) received a mysterious phone call in tonight’s episode, which she decided to take somewhere private.

Could she be hiding something?
We’ve already seen her getting close to Gary, and she previously told Mick Michaelis (Joe Layton) that she was prepared to do whatever it took to survive…
She was also shifty when son Brody (Ryan Mulvey) asked her about the new phone she’d acquired in tonight’s episode, making out that it was a work phone, though Brody clearly didn’t buy it.
