Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon) is set to grow concerned in Coronation Street this week when Gary Windass (Mikey North) goes AWOL.
Gary and Maria have been somewhat at odds in recent weeks, due to Gary’s empathy for Lou Michaelis (Farrel Hegarty).
Lou was cast out by the community after husband Mick Michaelis (Joe Layton) beat Craig Tinker to death.
However, Gary felt bad for Lou, who had also been beaten by Mick, and agreed to help her by buying Mick’s van – much to Maria’s horror.
This proved to be a big mistake, as Lou later visited Mick in prison and revealed that she was prepared to do whatever it took to be able to put food on the table.
When Liam Connor (Charlie Wrenshall) points out that Gary has been ignoring his calls and was due home from visiting his mum, she attempts to mask her worry, though it is clear she is also disturbed by Gary’s sudden absence.

Later in the week, Maria is reassured when she finally gets a text from Gary, who explains that he is staying with a mate and will be home soon.
However, next week’s scenes prove that this isn’t true, when his real whereabouts are revealed.
As Liam’s birthday rolls around, he reveals to Maria that he still hasn’t heard from Gary.

Knowing he wouldn’t miss his birthday, Liam worries that something bad as happened, and Maria fears he may be right.
As the oblivious family gather for Liam’s birthday dinner, Gary’s true whereabouts are finally revealed – he’s in hospital…
Already unconscious, a nurse rushes to his aid when his condition takes a downward turn. Will he be okay?
