General Hospital‘s Lynn Herring loves that her character, Lucy Coe, has enjoyed her fair share of relationships — oftentimes combining her love of “money” and “powerful people.” But there might be one regret in Lucy’s romantic past that still has her pining away for one particular man.
Herring told Soaps.com recently that she doesn’t see Lucy as a “very secure person” because she’s “always looking for acknowledgment.” Yet there was one suitor who always “saw her for who she was and still loved her” behind the “dressing over the top” to give her “a sense of self-worth.” Who would that mystery man be?
Well, it’s none other than Kevin Collins (Jon Lindstrom). Herring believes that Lucy would “take him back in a minute,” but there’s one thing standing in her way: Port Charles’ mayor, Laura Collins (Genie Francis).
“The mayor, you know, pretty much holds all the power,” joked Herring. “Laura’s not giving up her husband.”
Laura may not be giving up her husband anytime soon, but Herring thinks that Lucy “would dream of having Kevin back.” Some General Hospital fans might think it was Scotty Baldwin (Kin Shriner) who was Lucy’s ideal mate, but Herring was ready with an answer to that romance.
“Scotty is more your teenage crush,” she said. “And then getting into all those adventures and seeing a like mind of ‘What can we do next for money?’ They have so many similarities, but he didn’t necessarily bring out the best of what she strived to be.”
The truth is that “the only time Lucy ever felt worthy was when she was married to Kevin Collins.” Still, Herring admitted with a laugh that “Lucy’s a handful” who would still “like an endgame” in the romance department.
“I feel like she goes to bed at night lonely and would like an endgame, but I think at this point she’s living off the accolades from Deception because she finally has a little money of her own,” Herring summed up. “So, I think it would be lovely, but I’m wondering as she ages if she’s realizing she’s more to handle than most people can.”
