Peter Reckell (Bo Brady) on Days of Our Lives (DOOL) returned to NBC’s streaming platform on Peacock for the first time in a while, and he got quite emotional about it. Read on to find out why.
The recurring character felt happy to catch up with the rest of the cast. During an interview with TV Insider late last week, he told the outlet, “You just pick up as if it was just another day at home, and it all works…that’s like a class reunion, where you’re all just catching up with each other.”
However, there’s a sad downside to Reckell’s return as Bo Brady. Many cast members have come and gone over the years. In particular, John Aniston ( Victor Kiriakis) passed away in 2022. Last year, Wayne Northrop (Roman Brady) also died. And a few months before that, Bill Hayes (Doug Williams) went to actors’ heaven.
Drake Hogestyn’s [John Black] death in 2024 hit hard. The outlet cited Peter Reckell as saying:
It’s still difficult to talk about because Drake touched everybody in his sphere so closely, and he was my brother and one of my best friends. Having his memorial, there was no acting required in those scenes, because you’re saying things as the character that parallel your feelings in your personal relationship.
Struggling with emotion, he added, “When I went to John’s memorial and all these emotions came up, I just wanted to run away and be by myself and feel those feelings. To have to do it as a character was really difficult.”
In Honor Of John Black
In Friday’s episode, fans who watched DOOL saw that the show didn’t reveal the face of John. However, viewers heard the voice of Drake Hogestyn. John had successfully infiltrated the lab, but an explosion left him severely wounded.
Despite his critical injuries, he heroically grabbed hold of the vital medication necessary to save Bo’s life. The episode concluded with John flat-lining at the hospital. Reckell now regrets that he couldn’t catch up with his friend and former co-star.
An Opportunity Was Sadly Missed
He explained that he was in LA in 2024, but as he was busy filming, he missed his last chance to catch up with Hogestyn. Peter Reckell noted poignantly, “I tried to go see Drake, but when I went down, it was just a couple of weeks before he passed, and so I didn’t get to see him.”
It made the real-life Bo Brady feel that folks should take the time to tell others that they “love” them while they can. He added, “We’re at that age in our lives where people are going to transition.”Were you happy to see Bo back on the show? Did the scene of John Black leave you feeling emotional?
