Based on the logline, it’s clear that “Vows” won’t be ignoring Season 12’s other plotlines, in favor of solely placing attention on the happy couple. Depending on how things go for Hank Voight and Nina Chapman, there may even be a new love story starting as the series’ most iconic one comes to an end. Dante Torres’ struggle has left fans in suspense over the past several months, with suspicions even arising that they may be leading to his departure from Chicago PD and, especially following his loathsome actions in Season 12, Episode 21, “Open Casket,” fans are eager to see big bad Deputy Chief Reid go down. For the final few episodes of Season 12, Chicago PD has maintained a steady and consistent weekly release schedule. Season 12, Episode 21, “Open Casket,” the penultimate episode of the season, aired just last week. This Wednesday, the finale of Chicago PD Season 12 will be premiering immediately after the season finales of its sister series, Chicago Fire and Chicago Med.
Earlier this month, Chicago PD was renewed for a 13th season. Chicago PD Season 13 will begin airing in fall 2025, alongside Chicago Fire Season 14 and Chicago Med Season 11. While it’s already been announced that several cast members will be departing from Chicago Fire, the entire main cast of Chicago PD Season 12 appears set to reprise their roles in Season 13. All three series, however, are set to face budget cuts, and it’s likely that the episode counts of their next seasons will be lower than usual.
Chicago PD Season 12 has been consistently strong and, if it can stick the landing on Burgess and Ruzek’s wedding, it may go down as one of the best since the series’ early years. If it can deliver a cathartic downfall of Reid, and satisfying resolutions for Voight and Torres’ season-long arcs while it’s at it, “Vows” will be that much better. Especially for fans who’ve been watching since Season 1, this season finale is a must-watch.
